Vu Nguyen

Database Developer + Software Engineer

I build and run in-house applications and databases in government and higher education: schema, services, servers, and the interfaces on top. I have done it since 2005. On my own time I ship React apps and keep a data-science and AWS practice going.

Master of Science in Computer Science from UMass Boston, plus the Microsoft Professional Program Data Science certificate and the AWS Certified Developer Associate certificate. Vietnamese and English.

Works in

  • C#
  • ASP.NET
  • Java
  • C / C++
  • Oracle
  • MS SQL Server
  • 4D Database
  • Crystal Reports
  • React

Projects

Three I can point you at. Older coursework and projects live on my UMass Boston page.

Loan approval models

Loan approval is a probability problem. A bank or credit provider scores an application against the chance it gets repaid, and the factors that set that probability interact in ways no single rule captures.

I built statistical models to predict the outcome for individual applications, and entered them against the field. This was the capstone for the Microsoft Professional Program in Data Science.

GitHub Profile Finder

A React app that looks up GitHub accounts through the GitHub API and lays out what comes back: search, fetch, render the profile detail.

Movie Finder

A React app for searching films and pulling detail from the TMDB API. I built it in Codux, a visual IDE for React where edits on the canvas and edits in the code stay in sync both directions.
